BARBOURVILLE, KY — For 15 years now, PRIDE has been empowering Southern and Eastern Kentuckians to transform their communities, and volunteers are still needed to maximize the benefits of the PRIDE environmental cleanup and education campaign locally.

Brendia Moses spoke to 500 people this spring about volunteering and celebrating the 15th anniversary of PRIDE, the region's environmental cleanup and education campaign.

(Harlan, Ky) - Post 10 Harlan has added five new troopers to their roster after they graduated from the Kentucky State Police academy. The Kentucky State Police Academy presented diplomas to 40 new troopers at a ceremony held in Frankfort on Friday, July 6, 2012. Post 10 serves Harlan, Bell, and Knox counties.

The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved the merger of Green Hills Water District and Black Mountain Utility District.

In an order issued Friday, the PSC said that the merger will improve service and reduce costs through economies of scale, as envisioned by the Kentucky General Assembly in the state statute regarding the merger and consolidation of water districts.

During the month of June 2012, there were 43 motor vehicle collisions investigated by State Police working out of the Harlan Post in the three counties of Harlan, Bell, and Knox.
