Clay County Cooperative Extension Service programs for November - All are FREE!

Upcycling Sweater Totes will be on November 3rd at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. You will need to have a 100% wool sweater that has been felted. We will be making the tote out of the felted sweaters. A wonderful way to use an article of clothing that would be thrown away. Lora will have some sweaters that have been felted that can be used. Bring basic sewing supplies, thread and sewing machine. FREE & open to the  public! Call 598-2789 to register.

Diabetes and Food for the Holidays (Family Focus) will be on November 11th at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. We will be demonstrating two foods that you might prepare for the holidays for your family. Everyone wants to enjoy their holiday meals. These recipes will appeal to everyone and no one will feel deprived. Your guest may not ever know the dishes meet your diabetic needs. Forestry Webinar Series - Winter Tree Identification presented by Doug McLaren, Extension Forester, will be on November 11th at 7:00 pm at the EXCEL Center (beside McDonalds). There are more than 100 native trees in Kentucky and being able to tell one from another is not only enjoyable but an important skill when caring for your trees and woodland. This webinar will teach participants how to use tree characteristics in the process of grouping and eventually identifying individual trees. Knowing the trees in your yard or woodlands can make your time outdoors more enjoyable and rewarding. The process of identifying trees by use of a tree identification key is designed for all age groups. FREE & open to the public! Please call 598-2789 to register.

The Clay County Community Farmers’ Market will meet on Thursday, November 13th at 6:00 pm at the EXCEL Center (beside McDonalds) to discuss this year’s market sales.  The group will look at trainings, signage and other improvements that can be made for 2015.  Everyone is welcome even if you did not have the opportunity to sell in 2014 but would like to be a part of the market in 2015! (Family Focus) Beginning Sewing: A Tote for the New Sewer will be November 18th at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. Kathy Jones will present this beginning sewing project for anyone wanting to learn to sew. You will learn how to do straight seams and put handles on a tote. This is a wonderful beginning project for all ages. You will need to bring basic sewing supplies, thread, material and a sewing machine. FREE & open to the public! Please call 598-2789 to register.

On Thursday, November 20th from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, the Clay County Extension Office will be a polling place for those that market beef to vote on the referendum.

Our next 4-H Teen Club meeting will be on November 21st at 6:00 pm at the EXCEL Center beside McDonalds. If you are between the ages of 12 – 17 and are looking for something different to be involved in and still trying to find where you might fit in 4-H could be for you. It is an opportunity to be involved in something new ...and unique. There will be at least one teen club meeting every month. They don’t all have to be attended and you can join any time. So come check it out and see if 4-H is right for you!
