Attempted murder arrest in Laurel Co. - Victim flown to UK Hospital in Lexington


Laurel County. KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Detective Kyle Gray arrested Michael Johnson age 48 of Lon Chadwell Road, Corbin early Wednesday morning October 26, 2016 at approximately 12:42 AM.

The arrest occurred off Lon Chadwell Road, approximately 9 miles south of London after deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence complaint reporting that a male subject had shot his live-in girlfriend.

When deputies arrived at the scene they located this subject in the bedroom along with the victim who had apparently been shot five times. The victim told deputies that the two had been arguing earlier in the day and that this subject had backed her into the corner of the bedroom and had shot her.

Allegedly the victim and a five-year-old child were asleep in the bedroom prior to the altercation occurring. The victim was transported by helicopter to UK Hospital Lexington for treatment of injuries. A pistol was recovered at the scene.

Michael Johnson was charged with attempted murder – domestic violence; and wanton endangerment first-degree.

Michael Johnson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Deputies assisting at the scene included: Sgt. Larry Parrott, Deputy Shawn Jackson, and Deputy Daniel Grigsby. Also assisting was Constable Chris Webb and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
