Laurel County's "Shop with a Cop" 2017

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: 25 Laurel Sheriff's supervisors, deputies, bailiffs, court security officers and a special deputy all had the privilege to help with Laurel County's "Shop with a Cop" on Saturday morning December 9, 2017 at 7:00 AM.

This year's event reached 200 Laurel County children and is an annual event funded solely by donations from area businesses, groups, and individuals. This event originated as the Cumberland Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 28.

Presently the program is the Cumberland Valley Fraternal Order of Police Shop with a Cop and is in its 22nd year providing a Christmas for children from all over Laurel County. The children spend $100 per child with $70 of it being spent on clothing and $30 on toys. Some of the early founding fathers are still active with the present-day program including Don and Virginia Wattenbarger and Laurel County Sheriff's Detective Chris Edwards.

Also assisting on the event  saturdyay was: Jamie Harrison of Community Trust Bank, Laurel County Volunteer Fire Department, London City Police, and countless other volunteers.

A very special thanks to former Laurel County Sheriff's Deputy Don Wattenbarger for his lifelong commitment and support of Laurel County's "Shop with a Cop"!!

Thanks again to everyone for making this such a successful and blessed event!!
