Laurel County, Ky - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Kevin Berry along with Detective Chris Edwards, Capt. Chuck Johnson, and Lieut. Greg Poynter, arrested Carla M. Harris age 45 of Lily on Friday morning December 15, 2017 at approximately 11:27 AM.
The arrest occurred after the Sheriff's office conducted an investigation into the alleged abuse of a juvenile male and a juvenile female (both under the age of 12) that had been brought into St. Joseph Hospital emergency room in London with injuries consistent with abuse.
The male juvenile had extensive bruising over his entire body and the female juvenile had trauma also that required her being transported onto UK Medical Center for additional treatment. In addition, on a second occasion the female juvenile was again taken to UK Hospital regarding an alleged abuse. Investigators at the Sheriff's office determined that Carla Harris had custody of the children during the alleged abuse.
Also it was determined that this subject had trafficked pills to another individual on more than one occasion.
Carla M. Harris was charged with three counts of criminal abuse first degree – child 12 or under and two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance – third-degree – first offense.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
