Laurel County, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Travis Napier along with Deputy Charlie Johnson arrested Johnny R. Smith age 46 of Corbin on Sunday afternoon December 24, 2017 at approximately 2:55 PM.
The arrest occurred off Clay Avenue, approximately 10 miles south of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that an alleged shoplifter had fled Corbin Walmart.
While deputies were patrolling attempting to locate the suspect, they observed a male subject fitting the description of the suspect and while attempting to arrest him, a brief struggle occurred before the suspect was taken into custody.
Johnny Smith was charged with fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; and resisting arrest. In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of theft all lawful taking – shoplifting.
In addition, this subject was charged on a second Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and possession of controlled substance – third-degree.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
