Vehicle Pursuit and Arrest / Laurel County



London, Ky. (December 27, 2017) – On Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at approximately 8:00 AM, Trooper Chris Saunders was patrolling on US HWY 25 in the Lily community of Laurel County when he observed a 1995 Ford Ranger pick-up truck that had been reported stolen earlier that morning from a residence on Barbourville Road in Laurel County at approximately 5:00 AM.

Trooper Saunders attempted to stop the vehicle however the operator later identified as a juvenile refused to stop. A pursuit was initiated and continued for several minutes until the operator traveled into a field and rammed a Laurel County Sheriff’s patrol car and Troopers Saunders patrol car. After the impact with the cruisers the juvenile fled on foot and was located several minutes later. No one was injured during the pursuit.

The juvenile was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree, DUI, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and several other traffic charges.

Trooper Saunders is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by Troopers from Post 11, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers and the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
