DCI cyber team launched investigation after Ohio man sought sex with minor online
FRANKFORT, KY. (Jan. 5, 2018) – Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Cyber Crimes Unit today announced a 45-year-old Ohio man was arrested for allegedly seeking sex with a minor.
Nathaniel Bice Gillette, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, located 190 miles north-east of Frankfort, was arrested after a Franklin County grand jury returned a 6-count indictment for unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sex, Class D felonies.
Following a Dec. 2017 indictment, obtained by the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General, the Wapakoneta Police Department assisted Beshear’s office by making the arrestyesterday.
An investigation surrounding Gillette’s online activity begin when investigators obtained information that he was seeking sex with young children online.
Gillette is currently housed at the Auglaize County Correctional Center awaiting extradition back to Kentucky. The Franklin County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution of the case.
“My office continues to work hard to take those who are looking to exploit our children off the streets,” Beshear said. “I appreciate the hard work of our cyber investigators and the Wapakoneta Police Department for working to keep our children safe.”
Preventing child abuse is one of the Office of the Attorney General’s top priorities.
Beshear said parents and caregivers should help make the internet a safer place for children by following Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky’s Internet Safety Toolkit.
Through funding provided by the office’s Child Victims’ Trust Fund, statewide trainings are currently being offered to help daycares, summer camps, churches and other youth-serving organizations to safeguard children from potential sexual abuse.
