Teenager facing DUI, Fleeing Police & other charges in Laurel County



Laurel County, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Gary Mehler arrested Matthan C. Fields age 18 of London early Sunday morning January 7, 2018 at approximately 2:59 AM.

The arrest occurred off McWhorter Road approximately 1 mile east of London after Deputy Mehler attempted to stop a white colored Chrysler 300 that was observed driving 23 miles over the speed limit on Hal Rogers Parkway traveling westbound near Ky. 472.

Deputy Mehler activated his emergency lights and siren attempting to stop the vehicle however the vehicle failed to stop and continued to Ky. 638 turning onto it and traveling approximately 1 mile out that road weaving numerous times over the centerline before pulling into a driveway off McWhorter Road.

After the vehicle finally stopped, Deputy Mehler conducted an investigation on the driver who was determined to be under the influence – the driver admitted drinking alcohol. In addition the driver was found in possession of marijuana and later stated he had smoked marijuana also.

This individual was charged with speeding 23 mph over the limit; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; license to be in possession; failure to produce insurance card; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
