KSP Conducts Murder Investigation Following Shooting in Jackson County

 

MCKEE, Ky. (January 17, 2018) –The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was called just after 5:00 pm yesterday evening following a fatal shooting that occurred outside of a residence on KY-89 North in Jackson County, near the Estill County line.

The initial investigation alleges that Jason R. Gabbard, 44 years old of McKee, KY, was fatally shot by his father, Larry R. Gabbard, 62 years old of McKee, during an altercation. Jason Gabbard was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner and has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, KSP has arrested Larry Gabbard on charges of Murder, and have lodged him in the Jackson County Detention Center.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Rob Morris. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson County Coroner.
