Tigers season ends with 56 - 51 overtime loss to Redhounds

The Tigers basketball season came to an end Saturday afternoon with a disappointing 56 – 51 overtime loss to the defending 13th Region Champion Corbin Redhounds at the Arena in Corbin.

Clay County came out strong and jumped out to a 10 – 7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

 

But in the second quarter, the Tigers went cold and were outscored 14 – 7 in the quarter to head to the locker trailing 21 – 17. The Tigers shot just 35 percent from the field in the first half.

 

In the Third quarter, the Tigers found their offense, outscoring the Redhounds 20 – 15 to take a narrow 37 – 36 lead into the final period.

In the final period, both teams battled hard to put the other team away. In the end, the teams finished regulation tied at 48 apiece.

 

In the overtime period, the Tigers were outscored 8 – 3 to make the final score 56 – 51 in favor of the Redhounds.

 

Seniors, Matthew Mitchell and John Vernon Hooker led the way in scoring for the Tigers with 12 points each.

 

The Tigers finished the season with a 22 – 10 record.
