(Richmond, KY) – The Kentucky State Police, is continuing an investigating following a three county vehicle pursuit that began in Fayette County and ended in Rockcastle County last night.
The initial investigation indicates that Lewis J. Landis, 60 years old of Louisville was driving a Dodge Challenger south on I-75 near the 99 mile marker, when a KSP Trooper observed him traveling in excess of 100 MPH, at approximately 10:30 pm yesterday. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, at which time the driver accelerated and failed to pull over in an attempt to evade police. The pursuit continued for almost 40 miles, traveling through Madison County and into Rockcastle County, before exiting off of I-75 at Exit 62. Lewis Landis pulled into a gas station in Mount Vernon where he was taken into custody.
Lewis Landis is lodged at the Rockcastle County Detention Center where he faces multiple charges from Fayette, Madison and Rockcastle Counties, for DUI 1st Offense (aggravated circumstances), Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Resisting Arrest, and multiple other traffic offenses. He was also served a warrant and charged with a Parole Violation for Absconding Parole Supervision.
During the pursuit, it is alleged that Lewis Landis almost struck several vehicles, including multiple police cars while attempting to avoid apprehension. Members of the public and the police officers were not injured and no property or vehicles were damaged.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Troopers from the KSP Posts of Frankfort, Richmond and London.
