KSP Investigates Fatal Collision in Boyle County


Danville, Ky. (July 21, 2016) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is investigating a fatal collision that took the lives of three Mercer County residents early this morning in Boyle County.

KSP Post 7 was contacted just before 4:30 am this morning by Boyle County Dispatch, after a vehicle was found on fire after colliding with a rock column at the intersection of Faulkner Road and KY-33. The initial investigation indicates that James Darland, 21 years old of Harrodsburg, was driving east on Faulkner Road in a 2013 Ford Mustang just after 4:00 am this morning. Darland failed to stop at a stop sign, before driving off the roadway and colliding with the rock column. Following the initial collision, Trevor Thompson, 20 years old of Danville was found outside the vehicle with serious injuries, and was moved away from the burning vehicle by a Boyle County resident.

James M. Darland and two of his passengers, Brianna L. Coffman, 21 years old of Harrodsburg, and Jacob A. Frick, 17 years old of Harrodsburg were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Boyle County Coroner. Trevor Thompson was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center by EMS, and was later airlifted to the UK Medical Center with serious injuries.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Jeff Stith. He was assisted at the scene by Danville Police Department, Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, Danville Fire Department, Boyle County Fire & Rescue, Boyle County EMS, and the Boyle County Coroner.
