Convicted felon with a firearm arrested in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Shawn Jackson along with Deputy Shannon Jones arrested Justin Messer age 31 of Davenport Ln., Williamsburg early Friday morning July 22, 2016 at approximately 3:50 AM.

The arrest occurred on the I-75 ramp, approximately 10 miles south of London after deputies were called to a residence on Hanes Baker Road in southern Laurel regarding a man allegedly making threats with a handgun. Apparently, this subject and another subject had gotten into a disagreement there.

Before deputies arrived at the scene, this subject left driving a white colored Ford Econoline. Deputies were given a description of the vehicle and the driver and were able to locate the suspect vehicle near I-75.

Deputies located a handgun inside the vehicle and learned through investigation that this subject was a convicted felon.

Justin Messer was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; and carrying a concealed weapon.

Justin Messer was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
