Middlesboro, Ky. - On August 25, 2016 Kentucky State Police Post 10’s Criminal Interdiction Team, Trooper Joey Brigmon and Trooper Brandon Burton were conducting a safety check point at a preapproved location on U.S.25 E in the Middlesboro community of Bell County.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. a 1987 Cutlass Oldsmobile operated by Jerry Marlow approached the check point. Mr. Marlow was unable to provide a valid operator’s license nor proof of insurance. Troopers also noticed a handgun tucked between the driver's side seat and console while speaking with Mr. Marlow. Mr. Marlow gave troopers a false name before finally giving his real name. Mr. Marlow had an active warrant against him.
During the investigation of the traffic stop, troopers located a black box in the floor board in front of the driver’s seat. The box contained two large plastic bags with a clear rock substance believed to be approximately 2.5 ounces of crystal methamphetamine. Troopers also located a digital scale, marijuana, and a large amount of U.S. currency during the search.
Jerry L. Marlow, 31, of Harrogate, Tn, was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center. Mr. Marlow was charged with trafficking a controlled substance 1st degree methamphetamine, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating on suspended operator's license, no seat belt, no insurance, and giving officer false name or address.
