Officer involved shooting in Metcalfe County


Edmonton, Ky. (October 23, 2016) - Kentucky State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred today at approximately 12:57 AM CST at a residence on Junior Caffee Road, 4 miles east of Edmonton.

Metcalfe County dispatch received a call from a female stating that she and her boyfriend had been involved in a physical altercation and that he was outside shooting a gun into the air. She was calling from a neighbor's home.

The dispatcher could hear the shots in the background, over the phone, and dispatched a Metcalfe County Deputy then requested backup from Post 15.

After arriving on the scene, a deputy encountered 38-year-old Kenny Tomblin, of Edmonton. Following a verbal exchange with the deputy, Tomblin went into his residence, came back outside armed with a rifle and began approaching the area of the Troopers.

Tomblin failed to comply with verbal commands to put down his firearm and he discharged the weapon. Troopers returned fire, fatally wounding Tomblin.

No one else was injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
