Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Brad Mitchell conducted an investigation into illegal drug trafficking in the Keavy area after information was received and a search warrant was obtained and executed at Leland Karr’s residence on Earl Howard Road, 12 miles south of London on Wednesday afternoon (8-8-2012) at 3:00 P.M.

Discovered during the search of the residence was over 400 assorted pills including Oxycodones, hydrocodones, other pills and a large amount of U.S. currency.

Two persons were arrested at the scene and are identified as: Leland Karr age 62 of Earl Howard Road, Corbin charged with: Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 2nd Offense, Trafficking a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, 2nd Offense and Trafficking a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, 2nd Offense (Leland Karr was convicted in Laurel Circuit Court in 1997 for Trafficking in A Controlled Substance) and his wife Shirley M. Karr age 51 also of Earl Howard Road, Corbin charged with: Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense, Trafficking a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, 1st Offense and Trafficking a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, 1st Offense.

Both were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Facility.

Other officers assisting included: Laurel Sheriff John Root, Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore, Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Jason Back, Detective Billy Madden, Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Robbie Grimes, Deputy Greg Turner, Deputy Shawn Boroviak, Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, Bailiff Shane Rice and Bailiff Kenton Scharf.

Also assisting at the scene were agents from the London Office of the DEA.
