Local Group Being Formed to Help Restore the Red Bird River - Residents in Clay, Leslie, and Bell Counties Asked to Get Involved!

Those of us who live and play along the Red Bird River and in the communities of Clay, Leslie and Bell Counties know how special it is. We are surrounded by beautiful plants and animals and historical resources unmatched anywhere else in the state.

To make sure our home is protected now and in the future, a local group is being formed to help lay the groundwork needed to restore the natural resources in our part of the world.

KHS to Dedicate Historical Marker to Commemorate Hurricane Creek Mine Disaster

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2011) — The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will dedicate a historical marker to commemorate the Hurricane Creek mine disaster at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at 1370 Hurricane Creek Road in Hyden.

Leslie County Man Sentenced to 133 Months in Child Pornography Case

Attorney General Jack Conway, the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) jointly announce the sentencing this week of a Leslie County man to 133 months in prison for receiving thousands of child pornographic images.

HYDEN, KY — Tayton Lewis, a fourth-grader at Stinnett Elementary School , won a contest to design the T-shirts that will be given to thousands of volunteers during PRIDE Spring Cleanup Month in April.
