Child struck in the head with a baseball bat / father arrested
KSP NEWS RELEASE / (LONDON, KY.) – On Sunday, April 17, 2011 at approximately 10:52 AM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, responded to a residence on Sand Hill Road, 7 miles south of Mount Vernon in Rockcastle County.
Upon arrival officers learned that a 9 year old male juvenile had been struck in the head with a baseball bat.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault led to the arrest of the boys father, Jesse Vanwinkle, 34, of Livingston.
Vanwinkle was charged with Criminal Abuse 2ND Degree and was lodged in the Rockcastle County Detention Center.
The child was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment and was listed in critical condition.
Detective Donald Wilson is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by KSP Trooper Jason Vanhook, the Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Department and the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services / Child Protective Services.
