Gov. Beshear launches designated driving campaign

Program urges people to 'Be a ‘HERO, be a designated driver’

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Steve Beshear today launched Kentucky’s HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers, encouraging people to participate in designated driving programs throughout Kentucky and the nation. The national campaign was established by the family of Navy Ensign John Elliott of Atlantic County, NJ, who was killed in 2000 in a head-on collision with a drunken driver.

Ten Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Preliminary statistics* indicate that 10 people died in 10 separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday, Dec. 10 through Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

KSP Arrest Seven Across the State For Internet Related Crimes

(Frankfort, Ky.) Kentucky State Police executed 13 search warrants recently in nearly half of all the post locations in the state. The operation was centered around internet related child exploitation investigations and resulted in the arrest of seven individuals on Possession and Distribution of Matter Portraying the Sexual Performace by a Minor.

Grimes Leads Electors in Voting for President and Vice President of the United States

Kentuckians from across the Commonwealth gathered at the State Capitol today to observe Kentucky’s eight Presidential Electors cast their ballots for President and Vice President of the United States.

“The meeting of the electors is a special opportunity to see our democracy in action,” said Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes. “It’s great to have people come together to witness our electors cast their votes on behalf of all Kentuckians.”

Flu Level Raised to Widespread in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 12, 2012) – Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) officials reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week that the influenza (flu) activity level in the state has increased from regional to widespread. Widespread activity is the highest level of flu activity, which indicates increased flu-like activity or flu outbreaks in at least half of the regions in the state. The activity levels for states are tracked weekly as part of the CDC’s national flu surveillance system.
