Fatal Collision between Pickup Truck & Bicycle in Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards is investigating a fatal traffic crash which occurred on KY 490 approximately 3 miles north of London on Sunday night March 24, 2019 at approximately 9:24 p.m.

Investigators report that apparently a bicycle traveling southbound on or near the Fog Line along  KY 490 and a red pickup truck also traveling southbound on KY 490 collided as the pickup approached behind the bicycle and as both met a northbound vehicle along the roadway.

  • The bicycle driver was as: Charles Lee Johnson age 56 of East Bernstadt –Pronounced deceased at the scene by Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.
  • The Pickup truck driver was identified as: Clarence B. Feltner age 79 of Hamilton Ohio –Reportedly uninjured.

    • Assisting at the scene of the crash for the Laurel County Sheriff’s office was: Deputy Travis Napier, Deputy Josh Scott, Deputy Josh Morgan, Deputy Hunter Disney, CSO Sean Hayre, CSO Chris Blaylock.

    Also assisting was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad, East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling, Laurel County Emergency Management Director Justin Noe.

    Investigation is continuing.
