PSA: Clay County Cooperative Extension Service programs for April, 2019

 

 

MANCHESTER, KY - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for April, 2019.

There are several beekeepers who are interested in forming a Beekeeping Association. An association would allow beekeepers to get together for training, socializing, ordering supplies and equipment, and for helping the community.  If a beekeeping association would be something you would be interested in joining, please contact Barry Hubbard at 598-5067 or e-mail him at .   You can also leave your contact information with the Clay County Extension Office at 598-2789.

4-H Talk Meet and Demonstration Contest will be on April 11th at 9:00 am at the Red Bird Christian School. FREE and open to ALL youth ages 9-18. Participants will be entered into a drawing for three $25 gift cards. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. School excuse can be provided. Winners can advance on to District Communications Day – date and lactation to be announced. You MUST pre-register by April 8th. Please call the Clay County Extension Office at 598-2789 and give your name, title of speech/demo and your date of birth. If you are a diabetic, you can receive one pair of diabetic shoes a year that can be provided through your insurance.  The program on April 11th at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office can help you.  Tammy Woody will present a program on Foot Care for Diabetics and provide you information about the shoes.  You must call the office and let us know if you are attending at 598-2789.

4-H Chefs in Training will be April 16th at 4:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. Come and learn how to prepare sloppy joes and learn kitchen safety and techniques. FREE and open to all youth ages 9-14. Please call the Clay County Extension at 598-2789 by April 12th to register.

4-H Youth Paint Night will be April 18th at 4:45 pm at the EXCEL building, beside McDonalds.  Come and join us and paint your bee hive family!  This is a kid-friendly paint night, and parents/guardians are encouraged to paint with their kid(s).  This is a great opportunity to explore a new hobby & enjoy family bonding time.  Snacks will be available and door prizes will be given away! FREE!  Kenna Spears will be teaching the painting class for us.  Sponsored by: Clay County Extension Office and the Clay County Family Resource Centers. Limited spots available.  Please call 598-2789 to register.

Strong Woman Healthy Woman will be held April 19th at 10:30 am at the Clay County Extension Office.  A wonderful day is provided for you.  We have several booths that will be available and two guest speakers; Melissa Hounchell, “Health Checks” and a presentation will be held on “Creating Optimal Brain & Body Health”.  Come and pick up your TICKET to attend this event.  You will be able to receive weight, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol checks, colon screening kits that can be done at home and bone density checks.  Lunch will be provided and door prizes will be given away.  It will be a great event!  This program is free and open to the public.  Call the Extension Office at 598-2789 to register.

Homemaker Cultural Arts will be entered 10:00 am—12:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office and be on display at the County Annual Meeting on the 30th.  Clay County Homemakers Annual Meeting will be April 30th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  All Clay County Homemaker Members are encouraged to attend.  The theme this year is “Mahalo to Homemakers”.  (Mahalo is a word used in Hawaii that means thanks, gratitude, praise, and admiration.)
