DUI-Drug arrest / London

London, Ky. - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards along with Deputy Rick Cloyd arrested two individuals on Wednesday night April 10, 2019 at approximately 7:04 PM.

The arrests occurred on East 4th St. in London after detectives and deputies observed a Dodge truck being operated with the wrong license plate affixed to it.

As deputies turned on the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, the driver through a bag out the window which was retrieved by detectives and contained suspected crystal methamphetamine.

An investigation was conducted on the driver who was determined to be under the influence – this subject stated he used meth frequently in the past three months. In addition, the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant and a passenger in the vehicle was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

  • The driver of the vehicle – Chad F. Hacker age 27 of London charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; improper display of registration plates; operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license; reckless driving; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; and numerous other violations. In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of public intoxication – controlled substances; leaving the scene of an accident.
  • An occupant in the vehicle identified as: Justin Michael Helton age 26 of London charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on numerous violations including contempt of court.
  • These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

    Also assisting on the investigation and arrests were: Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Travis Napier, Deputy Deputy Gary Mehler and his K-9 “Edge”, Deputy Jake Miller and his K-9 “Gotcha”, CSO Sean Hayre.

    Also assisting on the stop was London City Police Sgt. Roby and Patrolman Jackson.
