Drugs & Paraphernalia found during traffic stop / Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Landry Collett along with Deputy Jake Miller and his K-9 “Gotcha” arrested two individuals off West Cumberland Gap Pkwy. approximately 10 miles South of London on Wednesday evening April 17, 2019 at approximately 4:33 PM.

The arrests occurred after Deputy Collett observed a suspicious vehicle – a black GMC Envoy sitting behind a business there.

The vehicle immediately left upon seeing the Deputy and failed to signal on two instanceDeputy Collett conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Deputy Jake Miller and his k-9 conducted a walk around the vehicle after an occupant was found with track marks and stated he had shot up.

The k-9 alerted on the vehicle.

Deputies found the occupants of the vehicle in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

  • The driver of the vehicle-- Willis L. Black, Jr age 50 of South Highway 1223, Corbin charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense more than 2 grams of methamphetamine; trafficking/transferring dietary supplement – first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; failure to signal; careless driving; failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense; and other violations.
  • The passenger in the vehicle – Eric S. Jarrett age 32 of Riverside Loop, Lily charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – 2 grams of methamphetamine or more; possession of drug paraphernalia; public intoxication – controlled substances. During the investigation this individual was determined to be under the influence. In addition, track marks were located on his left arm and he stated he had shot up.
  • These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

    Also assisting on the investigation and arrests were Sgt. Greg Poynter, Detective Bryon Lawson, Deputy Rick Cloyd, Major Chuck Johnson and Capt Kevin Berry

    Sheriff John Root stated that drug investigations will be on going.
