Complaint lands a Clay County man behind bars for Child Abuse & multiple other charges

Clay County, Ky -  Sheriff Patrick Robinson is reporting that: On April 8, 2019 at approximately 12:20 AM Clay County Sheriff Deputy Brandon Edwards arrested an individual after a traffic stop behind a business on South Highway 421.

Arrested was:

Mickey Napier age 21 of Gray Fork Road.

The arrest occurred when Deputy Edwards along with other local and state law enforcement officers received a complaint of the above mentioned subject driving a blue Pontiac had forced a female subject and two children to go with him and was supposed to have several weapons inside the car.

Deputy Edwards observed the vehicle travelling on South Highway 421 when he conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle behind the Marathon Gas Station.

Upon contact with the driver there was a strong odor of Marijuana emitting from the vehicle, a field sobriety test was conducted and determined the subject was under the influence.

While searching the vehicle for further of evidence of a crime. Inside the vehicle Deputy Edwards located two devices used for smoking Marijuana, a gun tucked between the console and passenger’s seat, baton, a pair of brass knuckles and a small gun.

Inside the vehicle was a female subject that stated she was not forced into the vehicle and two small children who were not in child restraints.

There was allegation of Child Abuse from the family, the Department of Child Protective Services arrived on scene and questioned the mother who stated she had seen the male subject strike the child with an object.

The driver was taken to AdventHealth Manchester where he submitted to a blood test.

Mickey Napier was charged with:

  • Operating Motor Vehicle under the Influence of ALC/DRUGS/ETC. .08 1st Offense
  • Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess
  • Failure to Use Child Restraint Device in Vehicle
  • Endangering Welfare of a Minor
  • Assault, 4th Degree (Child Abuse)
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
