Alleged Burglar Boxed in by Property Owners in Kentucky until Police Arrive

LONDON, KY (October 30, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler along with Deputy Travis Napier and Deputy Dylan Messer arrested Charles Ray Roark age 50 of London on Thursday afternoon October 29, 2020 at approximately 3:20 PM.

The arrest occurred off Keavy Road, approximately 2 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence there.

Deputies were advised while enroute to the scene that property owners had a suspect boxed in there.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies observed a male subject standing by his car, a black Ford Focus and made contact with the property owner who advised the residence had been locked up and when she pulled up, she observed a male subject (now identified as Charles Roark) exiting the residence through the front door which had been locked.

The property owner advised the door had previously been secured with a hasp and lock. Deputies noted that the hasp was broken off.

Charles Ray Roark was charged with:

  • Burglary – third-degree

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Deputies noted that the residence was uninhabitable and would be considered as a building.
