Man Jailed on Multiple Charges after Deputies Dispatched to Traffic Crash on a Parkway in Kentucky

LONDON, KY (January 3, 2021) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Hobie Daugherty along with Deputy Tommy Houston arrested Brandon Sawyers Smith age 34 of East Bernstadt early Sunday morning January 3, 2021 at approximately 1:20 AM.

The arrest occurred on Hal Rogers Parkway approximately 5 miles east of London after deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic crash there.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies located a Jeep that had apparently struck a guard rail sheering off both front tires before traveling to the opposing side of the highway to a rest position.

Investigating deputies detected the odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from the driver and conducted an investigation determining that he was under the influence.

Brandon Smith was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – First offense
  • Failure of owner to maintain required insurance – First offense
  • Driving too fast for traffic conditions
  • Reckless driving
  • Possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited
  • Excessive window tinting
  • Improper equipment

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
