LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective James Sizemore arrested two individuals off Maplesville Road, approximately 6 miles northeast of London on Tuesday afternoon March 16, 2021 at approximately 3:56 PM.

The arrests occurred while Sheriff's investigators were executing a search warrant for drugs following an investigation conducted by the Laurel County Sheriff's office.

Investigators found two subjects there, one of which he had hid behind a dryer in the residence and refused to come out. Following a scuffle with investigators the subject was removed and taken into custody.

Investigators found a large bag of suspected Methamphetamine in a washing machine along with a glass pipe.

Also located in the residence was digital scales and another bag of Methamphetamine and another pipe.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

Jason Carl Smith age 41 of Maplesville Rd., London, KY charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Resisting arrest

Nicholas Coffey age 40 of Smith Brewer Rd., London, KY charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Assisting for the Laurel County Sheriff's office on the investigation and arrests were: Laurel Sheriff's Detective James Sizemore who is the case officer, Detective Robert Reed, Detective Taylor McDaniel, Deputy Brent France, Deputy Hunter Disney, and K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root stated that drug investigations and arrests will continue in Laurel County.
