LEXINGTON, KY - The Lexington Police Department is reporting that: A Lexington Police officer assisting the United States Marshals Service (US Marshals) has been involved in an on-duty shooting.
At approximately 10:11 A.M., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, Lexington Police were assisting the US Marshals on the 1600 block of Thirlstane Court. US Marshals and Lexington Police were attempting to make contact with a suspect wanted for a Lexington murder. During the encounter shots were fired. The Lexington Police and US Marshals were not injured.
The suspect, a 31-year-old black male, sustained injuries and on scene officers monitored the suspect until paramedics transported him to a local hospital. The suspect is listed in stable condition.
The suspect has been served with warrants for Murder and a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officer had a Body Worn Camera activated. The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and the department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. The officer will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
