High Risk Suspect Surrenders after Special Response Team (SRT) Activated & Respond to Scene in Laurel County, Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root along with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) led by Team Leader Detective Richard Dalrymple and Lieut. Chris Edwards – Crisis Negotiator for the Sheriff's office, sheriff’s office K-9 deputies, and a large contingent of Sheriff's deputies and detectives successfully and safely served a high risk probation violation warrant on Wednesday afternoon September 8, 2021 at approximately 2:41 P.M.. Arrested was Michael Philpot age 26 of London, KY.

Ready SRT 200The arrest occurred at a residence off Hopkins Cemetery Road approximately 7 miles southeast of London after the sheriff’s office was tasked with service of a probation violation warrant, and developed information that the suspect could possibly be armed and on the whereabouts of the individual.

The sheriff’s Office SRT was activated to respond to the scene as well as sheriff’s investigators at approximately 1:00 P.M.. SRT secured the scene, and Lt. Edwards utilized a police cruiser’s P.A. (Public Address) system, a cell phone, and Facebook messenger attempting to establish communication with the wanted suspect.

In addition, Lt. Edwards utilized family members on scene to help convince the suspect to surrender. After approximately 2 hours , the suspect surrendered exiting the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

Michael Philpot was charged on a Laurel Circuit Court bench warrant of arrest charging probation violation regarding charges of:

  • Wanton endangerment – first-degree
  • Shock probation in felony convictions
  • Probation violation

Assisting for the Laurel County Sheriff's office was: Detective Richard Dalrymple who led the sheriff’s special response team with team members: Sgt. John Inman, K-9 Deputy Jake Miller, Deputy Hunter Disney, and Detective Taylor McDaniel.

Also assisting at the scene were: Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Major Chuck Johnson, Capt. Robbie Grimes, Lieut. Chris Edwards, K-9 Sgt. Gary Mehler, Detective Robert Reed, Detective Bryon Lawson, Detective Allen Turner, Detective Brad Mitchell, Deputy Jamie Etherton, Sgt. Brett Reeves, Deputy Brian France, and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.

Also on standby at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
