Employees at a Business in Southeastern Kentucky bitten by an Out-of-control Suspect

LONDON, KY (October 22, 2021) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Travis Napier along with K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler arrested Christine Copeland age 46 of Corbin on Thursday night October 21, 2021 at approximately 9:50 PM.

The arrest occurred at a business off Adams Road approximately 10 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched to an out-of-control subject there.

While deputies were enroute to the scene, they were advised that this subject had allegedly bitten two employees there.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies noted that the suspect was extremely out-of-control and detected the odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from her.

Upon arrest, the suspect allegedly kicked Sgt. Mehler and spit on Deputy Napier and while being placed in the back of the police cruiser continued cursing and yelling there.

Upon being placed inside the police cruiser this individual began kicking the cruiser doors and windows.

One employee there was apparently bit and was transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County for medical treatment.

Another employee there was apparently bit also.

Christine Copeland was charged with:

four counts of assault 4th degree; disorderly conduct – second-degree; resisting arrest; menacing; alcohol intoxication in a public place

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
