Middlesboro, Kentucky Man leaves Crash Scene then returns and is taken into Custody

PINEVILLE, KY - The Bell County Sheriff's Department is reporting that on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 2:32 P.M. Bell County Dispatch received a call of an accident with possible injuries at an address on Cannon Creek Lake Hill Road.

While enroute to the accident location Bell County Deputy Marti Messer was advised by dispatch that a white male in a black t-shirt, later identified as 46-year-old Paul Miracle, was seen leaving the vehicle running up the hill.

Upon arrival, Deputy Messer searched the area, but did not find the individual. As deputies Derrick Widener, K-9 Deputy Adam Southern, and Chaplain Dorton looked for Miracle, Deputy Messer remained at the location with his girlfriend.

Miracle called the girlfriend and spoke to Deputy Messer thinking he was talking to his girlfriend. He told Deputy Messer he would explain everything once he got back. He then walked up nearby tracks through weeds to the residence.

While being taken into custody, Miracle (right) claimed his vehicle was stolen but the keys to the vehicle were found in his pocket during a search incident to arrest.

Paul Miracle of Middlesboro, KY was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Falsely reporting an incident

This individual was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.
