Two Arrests after 911 Call that resulted in an Assault, a Stolen Police Vehicle and a High Speed Pursuit on Interstate 75 in Kentucky

Coffey Jackson

MONTICELLO, KY (November 7, 2021) - The Monticello Police Department is reporting that: On Saturday, November 6, 2021, at approximately 2:35 P.M. MPD Officers Brandon Bertram & Casey Lang responded to a 911 call reporting two males were lying in a field near Wendy’s on North Main Street. Moments after arriving in the area, Officers Bertram & Lang made contact with both males whom they recognized and knew to be Austin Coffey and Chase Jackson.

Officer Bertram told Coffey there was a warrant for his arrest stemming from an assault incident a few days prior. Coffey resisted arrest with violence, assaulting Officer Bertram.

Despite being hit in the face, Officer Bertram was able to deploy one round from his Taser, incapacitating Coffey.

While Officers Bertram & Lang were handcuffing and securing Coffey, Jackson ran and got into Officer Bertram’s police vehicle and fled the area.

City, county and state police officers across the region were notified of the incident and began observing for Jackson and the stolen police vehicle.

Utilizing electronic tracking, Dispatchers with the Monticello-Wayne County 911 Center determined the stolen police vehicle was traveling north on KY 461 in Pulaski County and then continued north on I-75 at Mt. Vernon.

A short time later, KSP Troopers observed Jackson and the stolen police vehicle near the 84 mile marker, still traveling northbound.

Jackson’s refusal to stop continued, resulting in KSP Troopers pursuing him for some 20 miles until he veered right at Exit 104 in Fayette County. After turning right off the exit ramp, Jackson then drove into parking lots of convenient/fast food businesses with the pursuit ending when a KSP unit blocked Jackson’s attempt to re-enter the main road, resulting in a collision.

Jackson then fled on foot but was apprehended several minutes later along the nearby interstate.
