Shot fired from Juvenile's Weapon strikes Police Officer during Investigation in Lexington, Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY (February 5, 2022) – KSP is reporting that Kentucky State Police has been requested by the Lexington Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 12:50 P.M.. EST on Saturday, February 5 in Fayette County.

At the request of the Lexington Police Department, the KSP Critical Incident Response Team initiated an investigation into the incident which remains ongoing.

The preliminary investigation indicates that officers observed four juveniles believed to be involved in a shooting from an earlier date.

The juveniles were seen in the 1000 block of Newtown Pike. Officers approached the juveniles to conduct an investigation.

During the investigation, one of the juveniles fired a weapon striking an officer. Another officer returned gun fire.

None of the juveniles were struck.

The officer was wearing a ballistic vest and was transported to the hospital with a reported non-life-threatening injury.

Three juveniles have been detained.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies.
