Deputies dispatched to "Burglary in Progress" arrive at Scene in Laurel County, Kentucky and find Suspect trying to fight and escape from Owners

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Brent France along with Deputy Allen Turner arrested Vernon J. Grubb age 39 of West Greendale St., Corbin on Sunday morning February 13, 2022 at approximately 7:33 AM.

The arrest occurred off South Stewart Rd., after deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress at Corbin Fleamarket.

While enroute to the scene deputies learned that allegedly a male subject had stolen several firearms and was attempting to flee but was stopped by the owners.

When deputies arrived at the scene they noted that the male suspect was outside trying to fight and escape from booth owners.

Deputies found the suspect in possession of four stolen handguns that had been taken from a booth.

Upon investigation deputies learned that the male suspect had apparently took duct work apart in the back of the building and forced entry inside.

Once inside the male suspect had allegedly busted several showcases open and took several guns and a large amount of expensive Case knives.

Vernon Grubb was charged with:

  • Burglary – first-degree
  • Possession of burglary tools
  • Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
  • Four counts of theft by unlawful taking – firearm
  • Theft by unlawful taking $1000 or more but under $10,000
  • Criminal mischief – first-degree
  • Resisting arrest

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
