More Than 26 MPH Over Limit Charge After Investigation Into Fleeing A Deputy in London, Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Allen Turner arrested Jonathan G. Coots age 35 of Farris Jones Rd., East Bernstadt on Tuesday afternoon March 19, 2024 at approximately 3:10 PM.

LSO logo Blackand Gold 200The arrest occurred following an Investigation conducted by Deputy Turner regarding an earlier incident in London on Village Street where he attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle with no registration plates on it.

The driver failed to stop and drove behind businesses off KY 192 in London entering a wooded section where he laid the motorcycle down, fled on foot and was not immediately located.

Deputy Turner developed leads on the individual and his whereabouts subsequently locating the suspect.

Jonathan Coots was charged with:

  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle
  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
  • Speeding more than 26 miles over the limit
  • Reckless driving
  • Destruction of a VIN number

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Assisting at the scene and on the investigation for the Laurel County Sheriff's office were: Laurel County Sheriff John Root and Capt. Chris Edwards along with Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler, Deputy Austyn Weddle, and Deputy Cyruss McVey.

For London City Police: Chief Chuck Johnson, Assistant Chief Bobby Day, Maj. Randy Medlock, Sgt. Troy Truitt, and Cpl. Justin Hopkins.
