Large scale drug trafficking organization busted in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: The "War on Drugs" campaign continues in Laurel County--Detective James Sizemore and Detective Jason Back along with the Laurel County Sheriff's Office Special Response Unit (S.R.U.), Deputy Daniel Grigsby and his K-9 "Edge" and Sheriff's deputies and detectives arrested three individuals off Grecy's Road, approximately 5 miles west of London early Thursday morning Oct. 27th, 2016 at approximately 8:00 AM.

The arrests occurred after information was developed concerning a large scale drug trafficking organization in that area and a search warrant was obtained and executed there.

Sheriff's deputies and the sheriff's office new K-9 team located over 2 pounds of Crystal Methamphetamine, $16,327 cash, pills, marijuana, scales, trail cameras in use, three handguns, a homemade small caliber weapon, and one shotgun.

Deputies arrested:

Rick Bowling age 58 Of Somerset Rd., London charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; trafficking in marijuana 8 ounces to 5 pounds – first offense; and persistent felony offender I.

Michelle Savage age 43 Of Somerset Rd., London charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine; possession of a handgun by convicted felon; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; trafficking in marijuana – 8 ounces to 5 pounds – first offense; and persistent felony offender I.

Kenny Jones 54 of Reams Ln., Apartments, London charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; public intoxication – controlled substances; and promoting contraband – first-degree – this subject took two needles into jail.

All three subjects were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Three other individuals were arrested while deputies were processing the scene after deputies investigated and determined they had outstanding bench warrants of arrest.

These subjects were:

Marvin Spencer age 46 of Somerset Road, London was arrested in the immediate area next door that was found to have an outstanding bench warrant -- Charged on a Failure to Appear in Court warrant.

Christopher Burkhart age 21 of-East highway 552, London (arrived at the residence)  was charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court.

Brandon Isom age19 of Wise Owl Rd., London (arrived at the residence) charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance – third-degree – first offense.

These additional three individuals were also lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Sheriff Root stated that this investigation demonstrates how beneficial the sheriff's office new K-9 program is for drug investigations in Laurel county. Investigations into illegal drug activities continue on a daily basis by the Laurel County Sheriff's office.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Laurel County Sheriff's Office Special Response Unit (S.R.U.) led by -Detective Jason Back with team members: Detective Kevin Berry, Detective James Sizemore, Deputy John Inman, Deputy Josh Scott along with Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Grigsby and his K-9 dog "Edge", Detective Kyle Gray, Deputy Brandon Broughton, Deputy Keith Dinsmore, Bailiff Robert Reed, and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.

Also assisting was Laurel Commonwealth Attorney Jackie Steele, and Paramedic David Staley who is a member of the sheriff's office S.R.U.
