Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Brad Mink along with Capt. Chuck Johnson, Sgt. Brett Reeves and Deputy Tommy Houston are investigating a single vehicle traffic fatality which occurred on Blackwater Road (Ky 1803), approximately 10 miles east of London on Thursday morning December 15, 2016 at approximately 7 AM.
The investigating deputies report that apparently a white colored Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling eastbound on Blackwater Road when the vehicle traveled out of control in a curve traveling into an embankment where it overturned several times before coming to a rest position off the roadway.
The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene and was identified as: Donnie Ray Smith age 63 of Marydell Rd., London.
Assisting at the scene of the crash was Bush Volunteer Fire Department, London Laurel Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and Abby Hale - Laurel County's Emergency Management Director.
