Clay Deputy arrests London man off Highway 80 on multiple charges

Clay County, Ky. (October 2, 2019) - Sheriff Patrick Robinson is reporting that on October 1, 2019 at approximately 11:40 PM Clay County Sheriff's Deputy Wes Brumley and Deputy Brandon Edwards arrested Robert Hopper, 38 of London.

The arrest occurred off Highway 80, when Deputy Brumley conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle after the above mentioned subject veered toward Deputy Brumley and ran him off the road.

Deputy Brumley was able to get the driver to stop the vehicle, through initial contact a strong odor of alcoholic beverages was emitting from the driver.

During the investigation the driver was found to be in possession of an open alcoholic beverage along with other beverages next to the driver seat.

Through investigation it was determined the subject was manifestly under the influence of alcohol. 

Robert Hopper was charged with:

• Operating Motor Vehicle under the Influence of ALC/DRUGS/ETC.
• Reckless Driving
• Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle
• Wanton Endangerment-2nd Degree- Police Officer
