Crash In Rockcastle County Leaves 1 Person Dead, 2 Others Airlifted

Mt Vernon, Ky. (February 02, 2020) – On Saturday February 01, 2020, around 8:20 PM, The Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London Trooper Ethan Lewis was patrolling on US 25 in the Conway Community of Rockcastle County. Tpr. Lewis activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop a 1996 Chevy 1500 pickup for minor traffic offense.

The vehicle who was driven by Courtney Duff, 26 years old of Mt. Vernon, began to accelerate at a high rate of speed passing several vehicles. The vehicle lost control causing the vehicle to flip several times hitting an occupied residence. Ms. Duff was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Ms. Duff was pronounced deceased at the Berea Hospital by the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

Two other passenger that were in the vehicle were also ejected and was being airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital due to their injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are suspected in this investigation.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 11 Trooper Ethan Lewis. He was assisted at the scene by Post 11 Personnel, EMS, Rockcastle Sheriff’s Office, Mount Vernon Fire Department and the Madison County Coroner.
