Serious Injury Crash: Jeep SUV collides with two tractor-trailers on Hal Rogers Parkway in southern KY

LONDON, KY - (May 7, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's accident reconstructionist Lieut. Chris Edwards assisted by accident reconstructionists Major Chuck Johnson, and Deputy Brad Mink are investigating a three vehicle serious injury traffic crash which occurred on Hal Rogers Parkway approximately 7 miles west of London in the two Lane section.

Investigators report that apparently a Jeep SUV was traveling eastbound on Hal Rogers Parkway passing a vehicle when the vehicle traveled out-of-control side swiping a westbound International tractor-trailer.

The SUV continued out-of-control crossing both east and westbound lanes striking a guard rail and then crossing back into the westbound lane hitting a second tractor-trailer (Freightliner) in the left side. The Jeep SUV came to rest in the middle of the roadway on its side.

Both tractor-trailers came to rest on the westbound shoulder of Hal Rogers Parkway.

The driver of the Jeep SUV was seriously injured and was airlifted to UK Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of injuries. Neither tractor trailer driver was injured.

The drivers are identified as:

  • Jeep SUV: Carly Anne Bell age 23 of Indianapolis, Indiana—serious injury
  • International tractor-trailer: Joshua James Iverson age 39 of Berea, Ky
  • Freightliner tractor-trailer: Terry Michael Whittington age 60 of Collinsville, Virginia

Assisting at the same of the crash for the Laurel County Sheriff's office was Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Capt. Robbie Grimes, Detective Kyle Gray, Detective Bryon Lawson, Detective James Sizemore, Sgt. Brett Reeves, Deputy Robert Reed, Deputy Josh Morgan, and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.

Other agencies assisting included: Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad, Swiss Colony Volunteer Fire Department, KSP Trooper Lloyd Cochran, and PHI Helicopter.
