MANCHESTER, KY (May 18, 2020) - On Monday, May 18, 2020 Clay County Jailer Linda Smallwood made the following statement regarding employee layoffs at the Clay County Detention Center.
It is with much regret that I have had to lay off six employees.
This morning I received an update from the Department of Corrections, they do not know when they will resume letting inmates go back out for work release.
We are not allowed to transfer inmates, we have lost over 100 state inmates.
While I know that further delay of outside work detail causes hardship and the loss of inmates has caused a financial burden, the safety of the inmates, staff and community is my utmost concern.
