Death Investigation Leads to the Arrest of Garrett, Indiana Woman

DeKalb County, IN - This past Sunday, May 24th, the DeKalb County Coroner’s office began a death investigation in the 1100 block of Franklin Street in Garrett. An adult male identified as David Allen Conversett, 51, of Garrett, was found deceased at a residence. An autopsy conducted by the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center at St. Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne revealed evidence suggesting a manner of death caused by other than accidental or natural causes.

As a result of these findings, on Monday the DeKalb County Coroner’s office contacted detectives with the Indiana State Police (ISP) Fort Wayne Post to assist in the investigation.

After a thorough investigation, ISP detectives, with assistance of ISP Crime Scene Investigators (CSI), discovered incriminating evidence establishing probable for the arrest of David Conversett's wife, Michelle R. Conversett, for Murder.

On Friday State Police detectives arrested Michelle Conversett without incident. She was transported to the DeKalb County Jail where she was booked into custody on felony charges, and remains in custody pending an initial hearing.

Michelle R. Conversett, 47, of Garrett, Indiana was charged with:

  • Count 1) Murder, a Felony, IC 35-42-1-1(1)
  • Count 2) Aggravated Battery, Level 3 Felony, IC 35-42-2-1.5

As this is an active criminal investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

ISP detectives were assisted in this investigation by the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office, the Northeast Indiana Forensics Center in Fort Wayne, and the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office.
