Kentucky State Police charge a Corbin woman & East Bernstadt man with Importing Heroin

Contraband suspects 8 3 20

GRAY, KY – On Monday, August 3rd 2020 Kentucky State Police Trooper Jon Corey and Drew Wilson initiated a traffic stop on a 2015 blue Jeep Wrangler after traveling recklessly on US 25 in the Gray Community of Knox County.

After investigation both the operator, Rebecca Welch and the passenger, David Ellington were found to be under the influence and placed in custody.

Kentucky State Police K9 "Alex" conducted a search of the vehicle and located:

  • 21 Grams of suspected Heroin
  • 22 Xanax Bars
  • 52 THC Cartridges
  • $1224 in cash

The driver, Rebecca Welch age 23 of Corbin, Ky. was charged with:

  • Obstructed vision and/or windshield
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to wear seat belts
  • Operating on suspended or revoked license
  • Operating motor vehicle under the influence of influence of substance
  • Importing Heroin
  • Trafficking in controlled substance 1st offence Heroin
  • Trafficking in controlled substance 3rd degree, 1st offense greater or equal to 20 but under or equal to 120 units drug unspecified
  • Drug paraphernalia buy/possess

The passenger, David Ellington age 21 of East Bernstadt, Ky. was charged with:

  • Public intoxication – controlled substance (excludes alcohol)
  • Disorderly conduct 2nd degree
  • Menacing
  • Resisting arrest
  • Importing Heroin
  • Trafficking in controlled substance 1st offense (Heroin)
  • Trafficking in controlled substance 3rd degree, 1st offense greater or equal to 20 but under or equal to 120 units drug unspecified
  • Drug paraphernalia buy/possess

Both were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
