Apparent drowning victim in Laurel County, Ky. Death Investigation has been identified

LONDON, KY (October 22, 2020) - On Thursday afternoon October 22, 2020 Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that the apparent drowning victim, a male subject found in a pond approximately 100 yards off Hatcher Road has been identified.

The victim is identified as Jeffery Whitis age 52 of London, Ky..

Laurel County Sheriff's Detective Robert Reed along with the Laurel County Coroner's office continue to investigate.

  • Lieut. Chris Edwards
  • K-9 Deputy Jake Miller

PREVIOUS:

LONDON, KY (October 22, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detectives and deputies are investigating an apparent drowning which occurred off Hatcher Road approximately 3 miles east of London reported to Laurel 911 at approximately 7:44 AM on Thursday morning October 22, 2020.

Area residents apparently found a male subject in a pond approximately 100 yards off Hatcher Road and notified Laurel 911. Emergency service personnel located the male subject determining that he was unresponsive.

Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced the victim deceased a short time later.

Also assisting at the scene was London Laurel rescue squad, Laurel County volunteer fire department, and ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

There will be an update releasing the victim's name after next of kin have been notified.

Sheriff’s investigators are conducting a death investigation.
