Louisville man that struggled with Police during Traffic Stop in southern Kentucky found with large amount of suspected Heroin

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Landry Collett conducted a traffic stop on a silver colored BMW that failed to signal a turn and had no license plate on it early Tuesday morning November 10, 2020 at approximately 3:05 AM off Highway 770 approximately 10 miles South of London.

As backup deputies pulled up to assist they observed the driver struggling with Deputy Collett and following an investigation Deputy Collett assisted by Deputy Tommy Houston, Deputy Justin Taylor, and Deputy James Fox found the driver in possession of:

  • A large amount of suspected Heroin
  • A needle
  • Marijuana

The driver was also determined to be under the influence and was also wanted on an indictment warrant.

The driver was identified as:

Steven W. Shelton age 39 of West Market St., Louisville, KY charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first offense – Heroin
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Trafficking in Marijuana first offense
  • Resisting arrest
  • Failure to signal
  • Excessive wind shield tinting
  • Menacing

In addition, the subject was charged on a Whitley Circuit Court indictment warrant of arrest charging:

  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a controlled substance – second-degree

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
