Lexington Man Charged With Drug Trafficking After A Targeted Patrol By Police In Southeast Kentucky

CORBIN, KY - The Whitley County Sheriff's Department is reporting that: While Whitley County deputies were patrolling a select area of the county as part of the holiday safety enforcement effort, Deputy Chad Estep stopped a 4 door Lexus Sedan on Falls Highway near Bee Creek for multiple traffic violations.

As Deputy Estep and Deputy Foley approached the vehicle, Deputy Foley observed Marijuana on the console of the vehicle.

As the driver was removed from the vehicle, the driver left the car in drive forcing deputies to jump into the vehicle to attempt to stop the moving vehicle.

Upon search of the vehicle, deputies located:

  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Crystallized Methamphetamine
  • Marijuana
  • Scales
  • Plastic baggies

Deputy Estep arrested Kevin Mayes of Lexington, Kentucky for:

  • Trafficking in Heroin, Cocaine, Methamphetamine & Marijuana
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Other traffic related offenses

Deputy Chad Foley and Deputy Jason Strunk assisted at the scene.

"Our holiday safety enforcement efforts yielded numerous DUI charges, various narcotics, a stolen vehicle and numerous individuals with outstanding arrest warrants."

"We conclude a very safe holiday in our county."

"Our deputies worked long hours to patrol areas of concern and to be mobile to respond quickly to calls for assistance."

"We appreciate the assistance of surrounding agencies who assisted us multiple times during the holiday weekend."
