LSO Locate Drugs during Arrest of Female Duo in Connection to "Strong Arm" Robbery of a Business in Southeast Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Lieut. Chris Edwards along with other Sheriff’s Investigators arrested two individuals on Friday afternoon January 15, 2021 at approximately 12:29 PM.

The arrests occurred off Sasser School Road, approximately 2 miles east of London following an investigation conducted by Sheriff's Investigators regarding the strong arm robbery which occurred at the Smoke Shack located on KY 363 just southwest of London on January 11, 2021.

Sheriff's investigators developed information on the whereabouts of a person of interest being sought, Hannah G. Craft. This individual along with a second individual were found at a residence off Sasser School Road. Craft was found hiding in a closet in the residence.

The second female subject identified as Kayla E. Philpot was also found in the residence and determined to be the person driving the getaway vehicle after Craft allegedly scuffled with store personnel at the Smoke Shack & then fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

During the course of the arrests, Sheriff's investigators also located the two individuals there in possession of:

  • Suspected Methamphetamine
  • Needles

In addition, while at the residence on Sasser School Road, Sheriff's investigators located bank money bags and determined through investigation that Kayla Philpot, a manager at a local fast food restaurant, had failed to deposit a sum of money totaling $3,756.80.

The two arrested individuals are identified as:

Hannah G. Craft age 22 of Paul Marcum Road, London, KY charged with:

  • Robbery – Second-degree
  • Possession of a Controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia

Kayla E. Philpot age 28 of Sasser School Road, London, KY charged with:

  • Complicity to commit robbery – Second-degree;
  • Possession of a Controlled substance – First-degree – First offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Theft by failure to make required disposition of property $500 or more but under $10,000.

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
