Man Charged with Fetal Homicide in Southeast Kentucky Found with Drugs / Female Victim Showed Investigators Where the Alleged Fetal Remains Had Been Buried in a Metal Container

LONDON, KY (February 26, 2021) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Lieut. Chris Edwards arrested Freddy T. Humfleet age 44 of Echo Valley Road, London early Friday morning February 26, 2021 at approximately 1:58 AM.

The arrest occurred off Echo Valley Road approximately 6 miles South of London after the Laurel County Sheriff's office received information from Whitley County Sheriff's Office that a female victim had been severely beaten by Freddy Humfleet apparently causing her to have a miscarriage of an approximately 10 week old fetus.

Sheriff's investigators traveled to the Humfleet residence off Echo Valley Road and conducted an investigation where they learned that allegedly Freddy Humfleet had struck the female victim with his hands, fists, and also with a wooden board causing severe bruising and cuts to her face, neck and body.

In addition, it was learned that allegedly this individual had choked the female victim impeding her normal breathing.

Investigators also learned that apparently as a result of the severe beating, the female victim had miscarried an approximately 10 week old fetus.

The female victim showed Sheriff's investigators where the alleged fetal remains had been buried in a small blue metal container, covered with rocks and a small commemorative stone placed on top.

As the investigation continued, Sheriff's investigators also found Freddy Humfleet in possession of:

  • Suspected crystal Methamphetamine
  • A glass pipe

Freddy T. Humfleet was charged with:

  • Fetal homicide – third-degree
  • Assault – second-degree
  • Strangulation – first-degree
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Assisting on the investigation and arrest were: Lieut. Chris Edwards who is the case officer, shift Sgt. John Inman, Detective Robert Reed, K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler, Deputy Hunter Disney, Deputy Hobie Daugherty, Deputy Travis Napier, Detective James Sizemore and Deputy Justin Taylor.
