Sheriff's Deputy in Laurel County, Kentucky Assaulted at Complaint Scene of an Out of Control Subject

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler arrested Cody J. Dickerson age 26 of London on Friday afternoon April 9, 2021 at approximately 3:58 PM.

The arrest occurred off Wren Road approximately 3 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a subject apparently under the influence who was out of control.

Upon arrival at the scene, Sgt. Mehler made contact with the suspect in the front doorway of the residence.

While Sgt. Mehler attempted to conduct an investigation this individual created a disturbance and shoved Sgt. Mehler slinging a metal chair into his left leg and fled into the residence.

This individual locked the door, however Sgt. Mehler made entry giving the suspect commands which he refused to comply with.

This subject struggled with Sgt. Mehler during arrest and continued to attempt to kick him before being taken into custody.

Cody Dickerson was charged with:

  • Assault – third-degree – police officer is victim
  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
  • Resisting arrest
  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Menacing

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
